Springboard is a free program that is open for enrollment to innovation companies in the Southern California region. Springboard assists companies in proving their business model and developing a compelling commercialization strategy. Companies accepted into the program are assigned expert business advisors who coach the company throughout the process which includes feedback from financial, marketing, legal and commercialization experts, as well advice from industry executives and the opportunity to dry run presentations and pitches. After completing Springboard, companies that are considered suitable and ready for investment by angels, venture capital and/or corporate investors, move on to participate in the Capital Competition. The Moxie Center for Student Entrepreneurship is an educational program in entrepreneurship that is open to all UCSD students. The Center offers instructional events including seminars, workshops, mixers, PitchFests, speakers and classes, often in conjunction with other programs on campus. We also provide entrepreneurial content to courses within the Jacobs School of Engineering, and manage the annual Zahn Prize competition. The Center’s Moxie Incubator offers admitted student teams access to workspace, tools, equipment and supplies to help develop product prototypes. Plug and Play San Diego is accelerating entrepreneurial companies in the San Diego area, increasing their access to the dynamic resources of Silicon Valley and San Diego, and increasing the chances of commercial success. This program creates a bridge for San Diego startups to Silicon Valley to technology leaders who intend to co-invest in early high-tech companies, accelerate their growth and provide them with a direct route to success. Applications are due March 28, 2014 and the pitch event will take place in April. Startups that are selected at the April pitch event will receive an investment of $25,000 (for a 5% equity stake) and then travel to Silicon Valley for the 3-month StartupCamp program. Startups receive free space and mentorship at Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale. The program culminates in an EXPO event where you will pitch to over 200 investors. The Startup Leadership Program (SLP) is a highly selective, 80-hour, 6-month global program which trains the next generation of startup leaders, helping them build a local community of entrepreneurs with international reach. The von Liebig Entrepreneurism Center at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering is dedicated to mentoring faculty and student inventors through the proof-of-concept process.
